Programme overview
Outline how the programme will be delivered.
The new NPQH programme aims to support and guide participants in readiness for their transition into headship. Participants will be supported through a series of workshops, visits and interactions with their Leadership Coach to shape their strategic vision for leadership. The three residential elements are vital components of the programme, affording time for extended learning. The programme will cover both practice and theory. These will be complemented by elective modules, that participants will be able to select based on their own specific development needs.
The programme is built around a headship development project which will have practical value in participants’ own schools.
How will the programme be delivered?
The first cohort of the programme commenced in January 2025. Cohort 2 commenced in September 2025.
Applications for cohort 3 will go live on 24 November. Information regarding how to apply will be shared on Hwb on this date.
The programme will take place over 18 months.
Each participant will undertake a 360 assessment at the start of the programme that will help to identify specific areas for development during the programme.
Each participant will be supported by a designated Leadership Coach throughout the programme. The Leadership Coach will ensure that each participant has opportunities to develop as an individual in response to the 360 assessment and to coach participants through the programme.
The programme will be led by the National Programme Director who will ensure that the quality of each aspect is of highest standard and that the programme meets the needs of each participant and the nation’s schools.
Participants will be awarded the NPQH status after successful completion of the programme.
