How to use the online Britannica encyclopaedia to find resources appropriate to learners’ age or reading level.
Search the Britannica Education encyclopaedia on Hwb
Britannica Education is a safe online encyclopaedia with age-appropriate resources for learners. You can search the encyclopaedia via Hwb resources.
- Log in to Hwb.
- Click on the Resources tile.
- Type a search term into the search bar (for example ‘Easter’) and click on the magnifying glass icon to search.
- You can then choose to search ‘All Hwb resources’, ‘Hwb Community’, ‘Britannica School’ , ‘Britannica Image Quest’ or’ People’s collection Wales’.
- Click on the Britannica School tile.
- At the top of the results list there is an option to Filter resources. You can filter by Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced, depending on the required reading level.
- Click on the relevant search result, which will open the article in a new tab in your browser.
Access the Britannica Education homepage
- Navigate to a resource in Britannica Education from Hwb.
- Click on the Britannica School icon in the top left corner of the page.
- You can now get the options for each ability level by clicking on Foundation, Intermediate or Advanced.
