How to pre-record a lesson

Overview

Pre-recorded lessons can be shared with learners at a pre-defined time and date or as part of a series of learning activities.

Pre-recording lessons offers many benefits including:

giving you time to prepare
the ability to re-record as necessary

Video recordings of lessons offer flexibility to learners, enabling them to:

access lessons at convenient times
re-visit lessons as required

How to pre-record lessons through Hwb

Practitioners can create video recordings using different tools within Hwb.

Pre-record a lesson via a Microsoft Teams meeting

Choose the Calendar button on Teams.
Select Meet now.
Start the meeting without inviting anyone else and select Join Now.
The central menu bar has 3 dots (…) for more actions. Select Record and transcribe, then start recording.
The recording will be saved in the personal OneDrive of the user who records the meeting. They will have full access to share, delete or edit the recording in the Recordings folder under My Files.

Pre-record a lesson via Google Meet

Login to Hwb and go to Google for Education.
From the waffle menu, select Meet.
Select New meeting.
Select Start an instant meeting.
You can choose to enter a meeting nickname, or leave the box blank. Please be aware that meetings which have the same nickname as chosen by another user could be accessed by others. For this reason, we recommend leaving the box blank.
Select Join now.
Select the 3 vertical dots (‘More options’) to select the Record meeting function.
Select Start.
Select Present now from the menu bar to share your screen (for example a PowerPoint).
Select the 3 vertical dots (‘More options’) to stop recording.
Wait for the recording file to be generated and saved to your Google My Drive: Meet Recordings folder.

PowerPoint Screen Recording

Teachers and learners in maintained schools in Wales can download and install the latest Microsoft Office tools for free. The PowerPoint app has an in-built screen-recording tool. When users choose the Insert tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen an option for Screen Recording will appear.

Screen recordings will automatically appear within the PowerPoint as a video file.

Screencastify

This is a screen recording extension which can be accessed when users login to Google Chrome using your Hwb login details.

Screen recordings are saved into Google Drive.

Adobe Creative Cloud Express Video

Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education is available to all teachers and learners as part of the Hwb Additional Services. You can access Adobe Express Video via a browser, iPad or iPhone, using your Hwb login details.

You can share recordings through a URL, email or directly published to Google Classroom.
